Blog stage 4
On July 24, 2017, the Opinion page from New York Times wrote an article called "My Gay Agenda". This article was written by Jennifer Finney Boylan. This article talks about how there is so much inequality in the world. The author was referring more to the L.G.B.T. community as the author is a transgender woman.
The articles discusses the issue of inequality and how the legislature is expected to vote again on the bill that restricts which bathroom transgender people from Texas should use. Jennifer states how she wants special rights for transgender people and she goes to explaining why more in the article. Just this year so far there has been 15 transgender woman who have been beat up and killed for just being themselves. Jennifer also states in her article "I want the special right not to be fired from my job. In 28 states, it's perfectly legal to terminate an employee because you don't like the gender of the person that he or she is in love with." It seems crazy to me that someone can get fired from their job because of who they are in love with.
I definitely agree with the author because I grew up seeing everyone as equal, regardless of the persons skin color, sex, religion, and sexual orientation. I believe that everyone should be treated the same because we are all human and being different does not make us less. Regarding the bill for the bathroom, I believe that transgender people should be allowed to use the restroom of whichever sex they identify themselves as. I personally see it as letting everyone be equal while also letting others know that there are people who are transgender. More people need to be informed and educated towards this topic, maybe then we can make a difference. I believe that the author of this article wanted her audience to be people from the L.G.B.T. community, as well as anyone who believes that everyone should be treated equally.
